What Max Pain is

Max Pain is the price level at which the largest volume of options expires worthless for their holders by expiration. Put simply, it’s the point where total payouts to option buyers are the smallest.

How to read it. Closer to expiration, price often gravitates toward the Max Pain line — it acts like a “magnet”. OLIMP draws it as a separate line and shows the value in the panel. The nearer the expiration, the stronger its pull usually is; on distant expirations it’s weaker.

Max Pain is a reference point, not a guarantee. Use it as one factor in the market picture alongside walls and open-interest flows, not as a standalone entry signal.
